Readers deserve books that don’t waste their time. Let’s be honest — in a world where anyone can publish, not all books are created equal. Finding something genuinely good is harder than ever. That’s where we come in. Every book on Lyon’s Lair is personally hand-picked, so you don’t have to spend hours scrolling only to be let down by page ten.

Authors deserve to be paid. It often takes years to write a book. When it finally publishes, the royalties get sliced up and handed to people who didn’t put in the blood, sweat, and tears — but somehow still believe they’re owed a cut. On this site, 80% of royalties go to the author. The other 20% goes to us, because we’re a startup and we need to eat too.

How selection actually works: We’re not necessarily looking for polished works — just works that showcase originality and strong voice. If I look at what you’ve written and say “Whoa! This is different — and it’s good!” That is the vibe.

Every book here was written by a human — no exceptions.

My name is Krislyn Lyon, and I’m a self-proclaimed grammar nazi. I’ve been writing since I was little, and I’ve read literally thousands of books in my life. At some point after high school, I started to notice something — I’d read all the plots. They didn’t impress me anymore. Plot twists? Dime a dozen. High stakes? Well, aren’t they all. A protagonist learning something more important than victory? Sure — character development is common in books.

The one thing that still intrigued me was whether the writer actually had a style — a voice — that was compelling. Something that made the words feel delicious. The difference between knock-off mac and cheese, which always tastes a little off, and homemade. I’m not looking for someone who’s taken every writing class and knows how to engineer a bestseller. I’m looking for someone who writes from the gut and knows how to move the entire world using words.
